2008 CMAA Australian National Bluegrass Championships Results
The 2008 CMAA Australian National Bluegrass Championships were held on Wednesday, 23rd January at Wests' Diggers. The show was produced by Rod McCormack who, along with Kym Warner, Jeff McCormack, Trev Warner and Mick Albeck, also judged the championships.
Up for grabs was $9,000 worth of Fender gear including a USA handmade Guild valued at just under $4,000.
The 2008 National Champions are:
- Lachlan Davidson - mandolin
- Robbie Long - flat pick guitar
- Martin Louis - banjo
- Luke Moller - fiddle
All four demonstrated amazing talent that impressed both the audience and the judges alike. Hamish Davidson also received an encouragement award for his outstanding performances on the fiddle, banjo and flat pick guitar.
The Championships will be held again next year at Tamworth.
The calendar - It's Back!!!!
It's back! A while back, the calendar was one of the most popular parts of the site, and when the site was rebiult it got pushed to the back of the queue. Now it's back and anyone can add their own events to the calendar.
That means any of the following can be added:
- Band gigs (including repeating gigs - you can add a weekly gig for as many weeks as you want)
- Jam sessions - regular or otherwise. One-off or every week/month
- Society meetings
- Festivals
- Conventions
- whatever you like.
Soon, we'll be putting back the radio show listings too, and they'll also appear on the calendar page too.
All we require is that the event be bluegrass-related or old-time country related and in Australia. We will be keeping it tightly focussed because that way it's more relevant to the readers of the site.
How to add an event (or series of events) to the calendar:
- First you must be a registered user of the site. Registration is free, but that way we can make sure we know who is posting what to the site.
- Then log in, go to the registered users area and add the details of your event using the wizard.
- You can add your event and then change the dates, so you can re-use the same event description for repeating events. You can even set up a band gig, say, then when it comes to the dates for the gig, you can have it work out the dates for every second Thursday of the month until July 2009 and the system will work it all out for you and add the dates to the calendar automatically.
- You can change or delete any date later if your circumstances change.
- Your event will initially need to be approved by our webmaster to check that the event is consistent with the objectives of the web site.
If you're not already a registered user of the site, do so now, and you can start getting the benefits of having your concert/gig/jam session/bluegrass picnic seen by the readers of Australia's most-read bluegrass site!

Congratulations Oliver Dear!
Oliver Dear came 3rd in the Youth Mandolin competition at the 72nd Galax Old Time Fiddler's Convention in Virginia this year. Ollie's brother Lachlan Dear played guitar with him in the competition. Well done Ollie!
